dealers nationwide were awarded the “2010 Center of Excellence” (COE). The Centers were selected based on the criteria of
customer satisfaction, outstanding brand representation, operational excellence and profitability.

While all of the award recipients did well in providing quality service, some 2010 winners continue to exceed the expectations
of their customers winning the COE multiple times. A few note worthy dealer accomplishments include Reeves Import Motorcars,
Inc. in Tampa, FL for achieving COE nine years; East Bay BMW in Pleasanton, CA and Flow BMW in Winston Salem, NC for winning
the award a total of eight times; and Isringhausen Imports in Springfield, IL for winning the award seven times. Additionally,
Global Imports has won the COE award for seven consecutive years and Hendrick BMW has won for six consecutive years.

Despite the challenging economy, BMW’s dealer network continues to invest in their sales facilities and workshops spending

VICTORIA’S former mining industry overseer is threatening to sue Energy Minister Peter Batchelor after he was sacked by the state government from his independent office.
State Mining Warden Andrew Swindells said he was ”unlawfully” dismissed from his role yesterday, on the basis of unsubstantiated allegations and without proper grounds.
Mr Swindells denied the allegations, such as the purchasing of office furniture and wrongfully using the word ”court” in the logo of the mining warden’s office.
”All of the allegations were of that ilk. They were complete nonsense. There was no basis on which they should be brought,” he said.
Yesterday, Mr Batchelor said Mr Swindells was dismissed on his recommendation. He moved to appoint former Victorian Crown Counsel John Butler to the role. The Mining Warden oversees the resolution of disputes in the mining industry, such as those between mining companies and landholders.
Mr Swindells said he was recruited from Queensland, with his wife and three children, to take up the role only to discover documents stating the government was planning to abolish the Mining Warden’s office. ”I will be commencing litigation over this,” he said.
But yesterday, Mr Batchelor announced the office would remain following last year’s review by the State Services Authority.
The Minister told Parliament Mr Swindells was dismissed following concerns about his performance and conduct under state laws.
He also cautioned shadow energy and resources minister Michael O’Brien - who asked about the dismissal of Mr Swindells in Parliament flights from Sydney to Armidale – about getting ”embroiled in some grab for cash”.

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown defended his role in the 2003 Iraq war Friday, telling a public inquiry it was “the right decision” and rejecting claims he withheld funding from the armed forces.

Brown said while he had not been closely involved in political decisions on the conflict, he was fully informed and had done everything required of him in his role as finance minister under former premier Tony Blair.

“Nobody wants to go to war, nobody wants to see innocent people die, nobody wants to see their forces put at risk of their lives,” he said, but added: “I think it was the right decision and made for the right reasons.”

He said Britain hoped “right up to the last minute” to tackle the threat posed by Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein through the United Nations, but this failed and it had to act to preserve the international community’s credibility.

Brown’s appearance before the inquiry is a political wild card just weeks ahead of a general election expected on May 6. The war, which led to 179 British soldiers losing their lives, remains hugely divisive here.

Much of the blame has been laid on Blair, who appeared at the inquiry in January, but Brown insisted everything the former premier had done during this period “he did properly.”

However, Brown himself is facing damaging allegations that he failed to properly fund the armed forces.

Witnesses to the inquiry, including the defence minister at the time, Geoff Hoon, have said money was tight and a former chief of the defence staff also alleged lives were lost because Brown ignored pleas for funding.

General Charles Guthrie, who led the armed forces from 1997 to 2001, told Friday’s edition of The Times: “Not fully funding the army in the way they had asked… undoubtedly cost the lives of soldiers.”

However, Brown said he had told Blair in June 2002 there would be no financial restraints on war, and said cheap flights Cairns to Canberra he met all subsequent requests for funds.

Assuming for a moment that you won’t be watching any stages live, what could possibly be better than strapping into the living room recliner and watching World Rally Championship coverage here in the United States? How about watching that very same coverage in glorious high definition? You’re in luck, as Discovery’s HD Theater plans to air the entire 2010 season, the start of which is coming up fast.

The action will begin on Thursday, February 25th at 10 PM Eastern with the Rally Sweden event. Racing will continue on Friday and a follow-up episode will be aired the following Sunday night from 10-11 PM ET. The second race, the Corona Rally Mexico, will follow the same schedule from Thursday, March 18th through Sunday, March 21st.

In case you’re wondering, Ken Block will indeed be taking part in the 2010 Rally Sweden behind the wheel of his brand new Ford Focus RS, giving American viewers a hometown hero to pull for. Air dates for the remainder of the 2010 WRC season will be announced later.
